Georgia redshirt senior Luca Urlando took home gold as the 2025 NCAA champion in the 200 yard butterfly, helping the Bulldogs finish in seventh place, the team’s highest placement since 2021.
Urlando rewrote his own NCAA, American, U.S. Open, SEC and school records on the final night of competition in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:36.43.
His previous record set in January was a 1:37.17.
At the 100 yard mark, Urlando swam a 45.21 and was roughly three seconds ahead of Ilya Kharun, the 2024 Olympic Bronze medalist in the 200 meter butterfly.
Urlando now holds the top three fastest times in the 200 yard butterfly. His national championship trophy is the 24th national title in program history.
In the 200 yard butterfly, graduate Jake Magahey finished seventh and ended his individual career with a time of 1:39.67.
Junior Ruard van Renen also finished in seventh in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:38.11. This swim earned him his fourth first team All-American honor of the week.
van Renen set a new school record in the preliminaries in the event with a time of 1:37.08.
Sophomore Tomas Koski placed 12th in the mile with a personal best time of 14:38.20. This was only Koski’s second collegiate time swimming the mile.
To close out the historic night, Urlando, Magahey, Koski and senior Reese Branzell set the school record in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The relay earned second team All-American honors with a time of 2:47.15. Urlando led off with a personal best time of 41.58, the second fastest 100 yard freestyle in program history.
The Bulldogs close out their season in seventh place at the NCAAs with more records to beat next season.
