The Ice Dawgs defeated Alabama 3-1 in their home opener at Akins Ford Arena on Thursday, Sept. 25.
After traveling to North Carolina, South Carolina and Minnesota to start its season, Georgia finally took the ice in front of its home crowd against one of its biggest rivals.
Alabama scored its first and only goal of the night early in the first period, but senior forward Ryan Bailey swiftly answered to tie the game for Georgia.
The second period was aggressive and intense, with neither side conceding a goal as the crowd ramped up.
Midway through the third period, team captain Evan Parente sprinted towards the net and assisted senior forward Declan Conway for the lead.
Searching for the tying goal in the final minute of the third period, Alabama pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Georgia regained possession, however, and Parente scored the final goal of the night to secure a victory for the Ice Dawgs.
After the win, The Ice Dawgs performed a stick salute to the energetic crowd. The Ice Dawgs improved to 2-4 with the win, and will face Alabama again at Akins Ford Arena Friday night.
